How to recharge when the world is on fire

Hey you,

Ever feel guilty for doing something for yourself when it feels like the whole world is on fire? Yeah, me too. I have a nagging inner voice says I shouldn’t relax until every problem is solved, everything is cleaned, and all my work is done. When in reality none of those things are ever really possible. That voice isn’t really mine. It’s something I’ve picked up along the way. And I know perfectly well that it does not serve me, but…it’s one thing to know something, and whole other thing to act on it.

That guilt likely connects to your desire to help others, but when you are burnt out by the world’s fires you can’t be who you want to be for yourself or for others.

When things are really tough, joy is a free source of strength you can plug into. Which sounds great, but how? One of the quickest ways to connect with joy is through our senses: touch, taste, sight, sound, smell.

Joy is also personal. What brings me joy may leave you feeling flat, and vice versa. So, it’s really useful to know what brings YOU joy. Once you can identify one (or twenty-one) things that are reliable sources of joy, then you can seek those out on purpose, and find them more regularly.

Joy cuts through a world that feels on fire. It is inextinguishable. Powerful. And yours.

Sending you big joy for your big week,

Christin
